How to Make Classic Coleslaw
Ingredients:
- 1 small head of green cabbage
- 2 carrots
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Start by preparing the vegetables. Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and cut it into quarters. Slice out the core and shred the cabbage into thin strips using our Cabbage Shredders.
- Peel and grate the carrots. We sometimes use thinly sliced carrots that our vegetable slicers produce.
- In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and grated (sliced) carrots.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, sugar, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrots. Use tongs or clean hands to mix everything together until the vegetables are evenly coated with the dressing.
- Once combined, taste and adjust the seasoning as desired by adding more salt, pepper, or sugar.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Serve chilled and enjoy your homemade coleslaw. It can be served as a side dish with sandwiches, burgers, or grilled meats.
Note: Feel free to customize your coleslaw by adding other ingredients such as chopped green onions, celery seeds, peas or even a splash of lemon juice for tanginess.
